SAINT MAARTEN
Saint Maarten Carnival: Playing Mas for the First Time
Saint Maarten does Carnival big. For about a month every spring, the Carnival Village in Philipsburg comes alive with concerts, local shows, food stalls and a crowd that keeps coming back night after night. It's one of the longest Carnival seasons in the Caribbean, so there's always something happening.
J’Ouvert starts at 4 a.m. right after Flag Fest, the Grand Carnival Parade takes over Philipsburg, and the Lighted Parade brings the costumes back out after dark. In between, you've got Maho, Simpson Bay and some of the best beaches in the Caribbean, all on one small island. Rooms go fast in the spring, so book your stay early.
The Saint Maarten guide covers the mas bands and J’Ouvert options you can join, fetes and concerts, road days, and where to stay and eat. This guide is coming soon and will be $10 in the Shop.
